PLANK, Harold F.
Age 84, of 65 Whitaker Road, Westfield, Pennsylvania, went home to be with the Lord, December 10, 2008. He was born in Westfield on January 13, 1924, the son of the late Joseph D. and Ethel Miles Plank. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in campaigns in Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. As a D-Day veteran, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for bravery in climbing the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc as one of Colonel Rudder's 2nd Ranger Battalion. Later, as part of the 99th Infantry, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Upon returning from the Army, he married his wife, Hazel Houghtaling on September 13, 1946 and moved into the house where they have life for 62 years. He was a member of the Jemison Valley Brethren in Christ Church, and Knoxville V.F.W. Earlier in life he farmed, delivered milk, was projectionist for Clark's Theatre in Westfield and worked at Ingersoll Rand. For many years he was a city carrier for the Westfield Post Office, from which he retired in 1985. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen Francis; and a son, Cpl. James D. Plank, killed in action in Vietnam on January 12, 1970. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Harry F. and Rachel Plank of Middleburg, Thomas H. and Diane Plank of Westfield; grandsons and wives, Rev. James and Marie Plank, Jon and Alicia Plank, Andrew and Kara; grandsons, Matthew Plank, Michael Plank; great-grandchildren, Jamison, Jennifer, Ashley, Lauren and Clayton; several nieces and nephews; one sister, Margery Houghtaling; and a special niece, Vicki Houghtaling; one brother-in-law, Herbert Francis of Meridian, MS. Those who wish may remember Harold through donations to Jemison Valley BIC. Family and friends are invited to call at the Jemison Valley Church, Friday from 6-8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11:00 a.m. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. immediately following the visitation. Rev. James Plank officiating. Burial in Champlin Cemetery, Westfield, PA. Arrangements are in care of Kenyon Funeral Home Inc., 222 West Main Street, Westfield, PA 16950.

Sorry to hear about your loss. He seemed to be quite a man! He seen alot of things in his lifetime here on Earth. Bless him for what all he has done! We are praying for your family!
