A friend just text me about a very difficult circumstance in her life. When she mentioned the words, "I'm just so tired of fighting to get ahead and fighting for everything I've got", it felt like instant deja vu to a conversation I had with my pastor some time ago. I was telling him that I was "so sick of striving." He said, "Well then stop. Stop striving. Stop fighting. Rest. Ask God to do the work that you feel so driven to do & then take your hands off and see what happens." I can tell you with tears in my eyes, that I did not take that wisdom well. It is not easy to be told to step away from something you feel the need to control. Little did I know that nothing, and I mean nothing would improve until I followed that simply yet profound advice. James MacDonald recently posted: "Until Christ reigns without rival on the throne of your heart, you are an accident waiting to happen." Boy is that true. Certainly in my own life, at least. I have no idea how many people I have pushed away, hurt, or confused by my inability to see myself as I should have. I have tried to mend bridges I believed were burnt. Many situations have moved on with or without me. This has to be ok. When we grapple for control, the most loving thing God can do is take away the object of your idolatry. For a while, I thought this as cruel. Why would my Jesus stomp on my passions? Now I can see more clearly. Jesus wants to guide my life. Left alone, I will make a mess of things, even if it doesn't seem like it for a while. Another dear friend told me that "in the surrender is where Christ gets to flex His muscles." I love that. I will admit I don't really "get" grace. It's easier to strive, fight and work. But Jesus says Rest. Hands off. Lay it down. I hope this is helpful to someone in over your head today. Blessings.Kara Plankhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07020643730217078215noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487757777873780566.post-74190294732712663262014-12-11T11:11:00.000-05:002014-12-11T11:11:00.111-05:00Designed by the CreatorA girl from the church's youth group just took this picture and simply magnified it.... Unbelievably beautiful and in perfect design from the Creator.
How many times do a brush away a similar snowflake in annoyance when it lands on my eye-lash or nose and disregard the work of God....
much less think of myself as a perfectly-designed creation made specifically unique by my Creator.... humbling to say the least!!!
I am most thankful for my husband who has tenderly loved me through dark days, uncertainties, & life changes this past year. I am amazed daily at my 3 beautiful children & don't want to take for granted their good health. I choose to believe that this time next year, I will look back to today and see that Jesus was carrying me all along. I know the reality is that I have been given more than most people around the world, and each day is a gift that I must embrace for God's glory.
In exhaustion I hang my head.
If crying would help I would,
I feel lost, lonely, misunderstood.

Then I hear a knock at the door.
Who would be knocking now?
I don't want to answer. I'd rather hide.
My house is messy inside.

I turn on the light, flip the lock to see who's there...
and there is a couple with a box of blessing to share.
Love in their eyes, joy on each face
to be giving, loving, serving with grace.

I don't know what to say,
To be reminded at the very end of my day-
That people care, people remember,
That at least through the week, I have to play "single mom" through December.

I cry. I vent. My "thanks" sounds so small.
The hands and feet of Jesus is shown despite my thick wall.
Why try to be strong? When all along,
Jesus WILL show up in the most unsuspecting ways when we need it most!Kara Plankhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07020643730217078215noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2487757777873780566.post-25450957361411956112014-08-18T18:27:00.002-04:002014-08-18T21:06:15.110-04:00Clayton in 1st Grade....WHAT!?

We love this kiddos that made us parents.

Think about this:

Have you ever seen someone completely exhausted, burned-out, weary, and tired to the point of being ineffective? That person should have quit while ahead!

Have you met someone who's heart has been shattered, but refuses to take time to grieve properly? That person should take a break to heal.

Have you heard of disaster in personal finance, moral decline or even failing health, but neglected to make proper steps at digging back out of the trap they had caused for themselves? They will never find success while denying the failures at hand.

You see, most people believe that to quit is always the wrong choice, no matter what circumstance may be at hand. Truth is, if your situation is more than you can bear, is weighing heavy against what scripture says, or you know in your heart to be leading to disaster, please QUIT!!!!!!!!!!

Now, I am not saying to "give up" by any means. With Christ, ALL things are possible.

But, consider taking a step (or two or ten) back, and re-examine priorities, goals, and reality once more. You may find you began the journey you are on- for other's expectations, or for haughty personal gain, or maybe simply the season of that event is simply passing.

There should be no shame in saying, "I'm tired, I must rest."
There should be no condemnation is admitting, "I should never have put myself in this dilemma to begin with."
There should be no guilt in acknowledging "A very good season of life is at an end, and I am tired of striving to keep the door open, when clearly, another must take the torch."

Maybe all of this is gibberish to you. That just means, it is not for you. Maybe it is just the ramblings of a weary momma who needs a bit of extra rest tonight. But if something deep inside you longs for rest that does not come by simply not setting your alarm clock....the kind of rest that bring peace, relief, calm, tranquility, I beg you to step back and see what it is that you are missing...It may just be that you need to quit something.

Quitting is not always a bad thing. Sometimes it IS the open door you've been praying for!!!
It's true of the clutter in my house, and God gently reminded me today that it's also true of the clutter of my heart! Household clutter has sentimental value to me, but getting rid of it does not mean I am throwing the memory away, but it does mean there is more room for the important things to shine...Heart clutter has roots in bitterness, forgiveness and pride. Getting rid of that clutter does not mean that justice is served or that things will go the way I "want", but it does mean that there is that much more room for the right things to find "new homes." Just as my house needs a good spring cleaning, so my heart need Jesus to clean the cobwebs of my heart so HIS truth can sparkle through me!
